The University of Edinburgh Business School has a history spanning more than a century, with its first cohort of students welcomed in October 1919. Today, the School provides a broad business education through undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education programmes, while also creating opportunities for research, discussion and debate across a wide range of business and management topics. The School combines academic learning with an international outlook. Its student community represents more than 74 countries, creating a diverse environment where students can encounter different perspectives and approaches to business. Over the past century, University of Edinburgh Business School students have contributed to business and culture worldwide, including work connected with gender equality in the workplace and internet privacy. Academic quality is reinforced by the School’s triple accreditation from AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. These accreditations are awarded by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the EFMD Quality Improvement System and the Association of MBAs. Together, they provide an important indicator of the School’s established standards in business education. Students can choose from 2 MBA programmes, 14 Masters programmes and 19 undergraduate programmes, offering multiple routes into business and management education. The University of Edinburgh is also ranked 35th in the 2027 QS World University Rankings, adding to the institution’s international academic profile. The Business School is positioned at the heart of the University campus. Its state-of-the-art building accommodates most School staff and provides dedicated facilities for teaching, collaboration and student activities. These include eight lecture theatres, multiple syndicate rooms, an executive education suite, a café and substantial space for students and staff. The wider setting also includes fine meeting rooms and larger venues, with several designed by Robert Adam in the 18th century, bringing together modern academic facilities and historic surroundings. Student development is central to the School’s approach. Since 2014, the Business School has developed a coaching culture across its programmes, encouraging students to take responsibility for their personal and professional growth. This approach provides support as students consider their strengths, ambitions and future direction, helping them work towards greater success in both their professional and personal lives.
